We use a Bunsen Burner to heat things . The parts of Bunsen Burner are barrel , collar , air-hole , gas inlet and base . The collar is used to open or close the air-hole.
2 types of flames , depending on whether the air-hole is open or closed .
Luminous Flame ( Yellow flame )
- When the air-hole is closed .
- Easy to see because it is luminous .
- Gives out a lot of soot .
- Not so hot compared to a blue flame .
- Not suitable for heating .
Non-luminous flame ( Blue flame )
- When the air-hole is open .
- Difficult to see because it is non-luminous .
- Does not gives out soot .
- Very hot and suitable for heating .
